HOW TO RENEW YOUR REGISTRATION
Registration may be renewed online, using the Texas by Texas website or mobile app for iOS and Android devices, by mail, and in person. Complete information about registration renewal is available at https://www.txdmv.gov/motorists/register-your-vehicle.
Online: Renew online at https://renew.txdmv.gov/ or www.Texas.gov. As of January 1, 2022, online renewal is available up to twelve months past your registration expiration date. Please allow adequate time for processing and mail delivery, often approximately ten business days.
By Mail: Return the bottom portion of your registration renewal form, payment and other required information to your county tax assessor-collector. Motorists choosing to renew by mail need to allow adequate time for mail delivery and processing, which varies by county.
In Person: In Farwell Monday through Friday, or on Monday & Wednesdays at the Friona Chamber of Commerce.
The Texas Department of Transportation is set to begin work on a project that will improve safety and mobility along US 60 in Parmer County.
The $70 million project will build a new bridge at U.S. 60, as well as entrance and exit ramps, and add safety lighting, said Neil Welch, P.E., TxDOT's Littlefield area engineer.
"We know this project is located on a heavily traveled truck route and adjacent to one of Cargill's North America protein plants, which has a steady flow of traffic around the clock. It is going to affect a lot of motorists including the plant traffic.
Both eastbound & westbound U.S. 60 traffic, through the construction zone, will be reduced to 60 mph, Welch added.
"The project is scheduled to begin Monday, April 15, with project contractor Webber, LLC., of The Woodlands, TX, setting barricades and beginning work on bridge elements," said Welch.
TxDOT is committed to keep traffic flowing, but U.S. 60 motorists can expect various lane closures, traffic shifts and detours throughout the duration of the project," Welch said. "Our goal is to make sure we get the work done in the safest and most efficient way possible."
Drivers are asked to use caution through the work zone, since crews will be working in close proximity to traffic, and should keep the following tips in mind:
• Slow down and always follow posted work zone speed limits. Speeding is one of the major causes of work zone crashes. Remember, traffic fines double in work zones.
• Pay attention. Workers and heavy equipment may only be a few feet from passing vehicles.
• Be patient. Delays from highway construction can be frustrating, but it only takes a few extra minutes to slow down for a work zone.
The project's completion date is scheduled for spring 2027
State Medalist - Congratulations to Michael Bautista who earned a 4th Place medal at the State Powerlifting meet in Abilene. Michael competed in the 123 pound weight class and his lift total was 1,110 lbs. which included a 400 lb. squat, 285 lb. bench press and 425 lb. dead lift.

Eclipse Watchers - Emma and Mari at the Chamber of Commerce were just two of the millions (or billions) of people who viewed the solar eclipse on Monday. More importantly, they got to view a near 2 inch rain on Tuesday. Note: We need an eclipse every April.

'Cicada-geddon' - Some cicadas surface every 13 years; others show up every 17 years. This year, according to the entomologists, the two species are expected to join forces and show up this spring. According to the University of Connecticut, the 13-year Brood XIX -- the largest of all periodical cicada broods "will co-emerge with 17-year Brood XIII." They'll be showing up mainly in the Southeast and in Illinois. Biophysicist Saad Bhamla at Georgia Tech says "trillions of these amazing living organisms [will] come out of the Earth, climb up on trees and it's just a unique experience, a sight to behold. It's like an entire alien species living underneath our feet and then some prime number years they come out to say hello." Some experts call the event a "cicada-geddon"
