Game Warden Sarah Wennersten was the guest speaker at the Friona Noon Lions Club meeting on Tuesday at the Clubhouse. Wennersten represents Region VI, District II of the Law Enforcement Division of the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department. She serves as Game Warden for Castro, Deaf Smith, and Parmer Counties. Currently, she is the only Game Warden in Texas that serves more than two counties.
Wennersten has been in law enforcement for approximately five years and has been a game warden for the past three and a half years. Besides her game warden duties, she also enforces state laws (speeding & DUI tickets), deploys with search & rescue teams during wildfires and hurricanes, deploys with SWAT teams, and deploys with Border Patrol. Wennersten is also proficient in flying three types of drones. She said that game wardens are like a Swiss Army knife in that they bring multiple skills to the table and must be adaptable to all situations.

Only Hurricane Katrina in 2005 recorded more casualties. It is going to be a long recovery process.
