To the Rescue - Judge Carrasco informed the Friona Star this week that the Bovina Fire Department had an opportunity to use their ladder truck when they were asked to assist with the fire at the Wal-Mart in Clovis last week. The fire truck has an extended reach capability which proved invaluable when working on a large structure like the Wal-Mart building. The preliminary investigation into the cause of the fire points to arson.

Wednesday is Punch Day - This combination of fruit juice and a carbonated beverage sparkles at parties, weddings, and other celebrations as part of the centerpiece at the beverage table. It's believed sailors in the early 17th century en route to England via India created the drink. The word punch is a loanword from Hindi panch (meaning five). Originally, punch was made with five ingredients: alcohol, sugar, lemon, water, and tea. It was called paantsch. Today, there are many types of "fruit punch" beverages. However, they contain very little fruit juice. Sugar, corn syrup, citric acid, and artificial flavors are the main ingredients.
