The Friona Connection - The 65th Annual Texas Panhandle Sports Hall of Fame ceremonies were held on June 11th in Amarillo. 2022-23 Coaches of the Year were announced and they included Randall High School Baseball Coach Cory Hamilton and Randall High School Basketball Coach Leslie Broadhurst. Hamilton guided the Raiders to the state playoffs for the first time in sixteen years. He is a 1995 graduate of Friona High School. Broadhurst led his Raider basketball team to the state tournament for the first time in school history. He attended Friona schools from 1971-1974 and later graduated from Lubbock Monterey.

Carnival in Town - Garry Moore Amusements has been at the Community Center this past week and has decided to stay in town until Sunday, June 25th.

Catfish Day - Catfish are named for their prominent barbels, which resemble cat whiskers. In the U.S., the most commonly eaten species of catfish are the channel catfish and blue catfish. Traditionally, many catfish lovers coat the fish in cornmeal and fry it.

Small Town, Big Parade - The hometown patriotic parade is a go. Line-up begins Saturday morning at 9:15 a.m. at 1609 W. 10th Street. Parade will start at 9:30 a.m. and travel around the block and return to the starting area.

New mural at Joe's Restaurant just south of the city park on Main Street

Caleb Geske #7, Heston Grimsley #12, and Martin Godinez #2 played in the Greater West Texas Baseball Coaches Association All-Star game on Saturday, June 17 at Lubbock Cooper Baseball Stadium. Heston was on the Red Team and Martin & Caleb were on the Blue Team. The Red Team defeated the Blue Team by a final score of 17-7. Congratulations to these three young men. - Coach Rosales

Kyle the Magician visits Friona Public Library

Kyle Groves, The Magician, presented his "Unity Through Laughter" program in front of 60 spellbound kids at the library on Wednesday. The magic show was part of the Summer Reading Program sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Sirena Del Rio will return to the library next Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. for the final event of the season. Perryton tornado relief effort

The Hi-Pro Training Center, 1201 E. 11th Street in Friona, has been established as a drop-off location for items that are desperately needed by residents of Perryton who were dislocated by last Thursday’s tornado. The training center is located just east of Hi-Pro’s main office building. 

Needed items include baby formula, diapers, wipes, toiletries, blankets, flashlights, nonperishable foods, and gift cards. Also, towels, cooking oil, laundry deterrent, and dish soap. Donations will be accepted until the end of the day Monday, June 26th.
