TxDOT Hosting Public Meeting - Information on a route study to identify potential mobility improvements to US 60/70/84 or FM 292 in Parmer County will be presented at an open house in Farwell that will take place from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. (CST) on Thursday, June 8, at the Farwell ISD Administration Building, located at 805 Avenue G. The route study includes assessing at which location of the existing BNSF railroad crossing at the Texas-New Mexico state line could be improved by building a bridge structure spanning the crossing.

Gunfire at the Ballpark - The Friona Police Department was paged last week when gunshots were heard near the baseball parks south of 5th street. Baseball games were interrupted as players, coaches, and fans scrambled for the dugouts, trees, and vehicles for cover. Friona police officers, with help from Parmer County Sheriff officers, found the individuals responsible and two arrests were made.

Golf Tourney To Benefit Pregnancy Resource Center - Created with Purpose of West Texas announced that it will host its 3rd Annual Birdies for Babies Golf Tournament fundraiser on Thursday, June 22nd at 5:30 p.m. (CST) at the Farwell Country Club. This year's event is titled "Fiesta on the Fairway" and will include a taco bar, refreshments, prizes, and giveaways. It will be a 4-Person Team Scramble format and the entry fee is $500.00 per team. Raffle Winners announced - The Parmer County Babe Ruth Baseball League announced the winners of their fundraiser raffle. Sergito Chaparro of Dimmitt won the Henry Lever Action .22LR Garden Gun, Turett Schlabs of Farwell won the Glock 22 .40Cal Pistol, and Dusti Kelley of Sudan won the CZ Home Defense 12 gauge shotgun.

Parmer County Commissioners Court met in regular session on Monday, May 22nd, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. in the County Courtroom of the Parmer County Courthouse in Farwell, Texas. The meeting began with prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag and Texas Flag.
Parmer County Judge Izzy Carrasco recently met with Cargill officials and received a tentative schedule for the upcoming Highway 60 overpass project east of the plant. Judge Carrasco told the Court that the expected start date would be October 2023 and would consist of eight phases. Completion date for the project is August 2027 or earlier depending on weather delays or material shortages.
Commissioners approved a motion to take bids on a project to chip seal and re-build the shoulder of CR 19 and Cemetery Road in Precinct 1. A motion for the demolition and removal of two old county dwellings in Precinct 4 was also approved. An agreement with John Gurley for office space rental was not renewed.
Chief Deputy Sheriff Mario Vidaurri reported to the Court that the Parmer County Law Enforcement Center is currently housing nineteen inmates of which one is a paying customer from Dawson County. The mutual aid agreement between Parmer and Bailey County was renewed.
A motion to fund a full-time secretary position for the Juvenile Probation office was approved. Parmer County will pay 60 percent of the salary and Bailey County will pay 40 percent.
In other business, line item transfers and budget amendments for 2022 were approved.
A bond for new Tax Assessor/Collector Deputy Clerk Kathy Vargas was approved. A request to join the Region O Water Planning District was declined.
Items for discussion only included possible renovations to the old jail, TXDOT virtual meetings, and budget workshop dates.
There were no comments from the public during the open forum. Minutes from the May 8th meeting were read and approved. Commissioners approved the payment of the accounts payables as presented by County Treasurer Sharon May. The Treasurer's Payroll Report was also approved. The next regular meeting is Monday, June 12th.

The Friona Cemetery was in great shape for the Memorial Day weekend as recent rains have been very beneficial to the trees and the grass. Thanks to Mr. Rackley and Mr. Monk and the volunteers who put flags at the graves of veterans for the holiday.
