Election News - Longtime State Rep. John Smithee, R-Amarillo, announced Thursday his plans to run for re-election in the spring Republican party primary. Rep. Smithee serves District 86 which includes the following counties: Armstrong, Dallam, Deaf Smith, Hartley, Oldham, Parmer, and Randall. Rep. Smithee was first elected to office in 1984 and assumed office in 1985

It will be visible in parts of the United States, Mexico, and many countries in South and Central America. A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun, thereby totally or partly obscuring the image of the Sun for a viewer on Earth. The main path (90% coverage) will be about 100 miles to the southwest of Friona.
