Vernie Schacher

Mass of Resurrection for Vernie Schacher, age 76, of Lazbuddie, Texas, was held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 3, 2022 at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Bovina with Father Gregory Bunyan of Friona officiating. Rosary was held at 7:00 p.m., Friday, September 2, 2022 at St. Ann's Cathlic Church. Burial was in Friona Cemetery. Vernie died Wednesday, August 31, 2022 in Amarillo, Texas. She was born February 26, 1946 in Knox City, Texas to Christopher and Rose (Decker) Birkenfeld. She married Gene Schacher in Nazareth, Texas on November 7, 1964.

Vernie had a wonderful gift of making others feel cared for and welcomed and she readily shared her faith through both words and actions. She never missed an important celebration or sporting event that involved her grandkids or great grandkids, no matter how far she had to travel to get there. Her love of golf and cards brought such enjoyment and fellowship with those around her, and her talent in the kitchen was enjoyed by anyone blest to share a meal with her. Vernie was a true and faithful matriarch and relished time spent with her family. Her presence will truly be missed around each and every family table and celebration. She is preceded in death by her husband, Gene; a son, David Schacher; her parents; and four brothers.

Vernie is survived by her son, Daniel Schacher and his wife, Mary Jo of Lazbuddie, Texas; her two daughters, Becky Sava and her husband, Greg of Bowie, Maryland and Cathy (Schacher) Wallace of Amarillo, Texas; her sister, Stephanne Dobmeier of Nazareth, Texas; her two brothers, Joe Lynn Birkenfeld of Nazareth, Texas and Leslie Birkenfeld of San Antonio, Texas; her fifteen grandchildren, Brittney Smith and her husband, Zack, Jacob Schacher, Kinzi Jo Cox and her husband, Dylan, Justin Schacher and his wife, Maysun, John Henry Schacher, Sarah Sava, Anna Sava, Dallas Sava, Zachary Sava, Samantha Sava, Carly Sava, Jaclyn Sava, Wyatt Sava, Elizabeth Wallace and Erin Wallace; her six great-grandchildren, Madelyn Smith, Barrett Smith, Bowen Smith, Stetson Cox, Cooper Cox and Baylor Cox.

Jose "Joe" Olvera

Jose "Joe" Olvera, 65 of Bovina passed away September 5, 2022 in Amarillo. Viewing will be held from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM with Rosary Services at 7:00 PM Thursday, September 8, 2022 in the Ron Smiley Memorial Chapel of HANSARD FAMILY with Mass of Christian Burial Services set for 10:00 AM Friday, September 9, 2022 at St, Ann's Catholic Church of Bovina with Deacon Michael Anzaldua of Dalhart, and Father Gregory Bunyan as Celebrants. Burial following in the Bovina Cemetery by HANSARD FAMILY Funeral Home of Friona.

Joe was born September 7, 1956 in Friona, to Elva Hernandez. He later married Celeste Flores June 9, 1979 in Texico, NM.

Joe was a very hard worker and was employed by the Bovina Supermarket for many years first as a butcher and then as a manager. He also was employed by Prairie Acres Nursing Home in Friona, a Clovis care center and Advanced Auto Parts also in Clovis.

Joe is a past member of the Bovina City Council and Bovina Volunteer Fire Department. He was very active in the Bovina Little League as an umpire and coach. In his younger days Joe loved to play racquetball and baseball and in his latter days, fishing, walking and watching TV.

Those preceding him in death include his mother Elva, and 1 brother-Robert Olvera.

Those to carry on his legacy include his wife Celeste Olvera of Bovina, 3 sons- Joseph Olvera and wife Sabrina of Bovina, Mike Olvera and wife Elida of Dalhart, and Jason Olvera and wife Janey of Bovina, 8 grandchildren-Matthew, Sophia, Edgar, Jacob, Natalie, Miranda, Noah, and Asuna, and 1 great-granddaughter-Kamila.
