The Parmer County Hospital Auxiliary is accepting donations for its 2020 Project Christmas Card. Proceeds from this annual fundraiser help purchase needed medical equipment. Canisters have been placed around town in various businesses for the collection of donations. The names of donors will be included in a special Christmas Greeting Card in the Friona Star newspaper. Please make sure you put your name with ALL donations. The deadline for donations is Saturday, December 19th.
Donations are being accepted for the Empty Stocking Fund which provides clothing and a toy to local needy children. School officials are consulted to determine the recipients. Donations may be made at Friona InterBank or given to project co-chairs Holly Campbell and Jyl Grimsley.

After a near 30-year absence, new housing has returned to Friona. Phase 1 of the new residential development project at Ashland Avenue and 7th Street is completed and is ready for tenants. The Friona Economic Development Corporation and the City of Friona awarded the contract to Sea Scrolls, LLC earlier in the year.
Sea Scrolls owner Josh McDonald said, "Phase 1 was completed on time, on budget, and with no construction related injuries." The last time new homes were built in Friona was in the early 1990s on Springfield Avenue west of Reeve Lake. McDonald continued, "Financing was provided by Friona Interbank and local subcontractors and vendors were utilized as much as possible."
Phase 1 features one (1) triplex residential property and one (1) quadplex residential property. Each unit in the triplex will feature approximately 908 square feet of living space which will include 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, laundry, kitchen, dining room, living room, garage, yard, and potentially a patio. Each unit in the quadplex will feature approximately 631 square feet of living space which includes bedroom, bathroom, laundry, kitchen, dining room, living room, garage, yard, and potentially a patio. Preliminary work has already begun on Phase 2.

The Parmer County Commissioners Court met in regular session on Monday, November 23rd, 2020 at 10 a.m. in the County Courtroom of the Parmer County Courthouse in Farwell, Texas. The meeting began with prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag and Texas Flag.
There were no public comments. Minutes from the November 9th meeting were read and approved. Commissioners approved the payment of the accounts payables as presented by County Treasurer Sharon May. The Treasurer's Report was also approved.
Commissioners approved a 1 (one) year extension to the Permanent School Fund lease with Mason Oil & Gas Company. The 13,000+ acre property is located in Gaines & Andrews counties in Texas. Mason Oil & Gas requested the extension in order to complete a seismic mapping of the property. Results of the mapping will be available only to Mason Oil & Gas and Parmer County. Under the lease extension agreement, the information cannot be sold to a third party. There is also a continuous exploration clause that allows the lease agreement to be automatically extended in 6 (six) month increments if new wells are added to the property. The lease agreement pays $150 per acre.
A resolution passed unanimously to authorize the execution of an agreement to contribute funds, and to designate TXDOT as the agency responsible for the development of US Highway 60 and appropriation of funds.
Commissioners approved a request from Farwell ISD for $90,113.07 from their portion of the Permanent School Fund. Approval was also given to the request by Bovina ISD for $110,114.38 from their portion of the same fund.
The next scheduled meeting is Monday, December 14th.
All meetings are open to the public. The Commissioner's Court reserves the right to go into Executive Session at any time. The agenda may be found on the Parmer County website.
