Ouida Shaffer Jones, 100, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2026. A family directed memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 21st at 2 p.m. at the Friona Methodist Church. Arrangements by HANSARD FAMILY Funeral Home of Friona.
She was born on January 21, 1926 at a farm near Forgan, Oklahoma to James L. and Corinne Simmons Shaffer. In April, 1928, the Shaffer family moved to Parmer County. The year 1944 was an eventful one as Ouida graduated Friona High School and in December, she married Bob Jones, a classmate who had recently enlisted in the U.S. Navy.
Ouida worked for Southwestern Public Service, first in the Friona office and later in Lubbock, retiring in 1986. Finding retirement rather boring, Ouida opened and managed the Lubbock office of Consumer Credit Counseling and retired again in 1992. She considered her greatest accomplishment to be her two sons to whom she was a devoted mother. Ouida was a voracious reader, enjoyed knitting and crafts, travel, and shopping to the third power.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son Joe Bill; and her sisters, Valoris Osborn and Ruby Bainum.
Ouida is survived by her son, Jim Bob Jones and wife, Teddy; grandchildren, Blaire Herring and Hayes Jones; nieces Karen Renner, Lisa Gaynor, and Lori Younkman; nephews Dr. Joel Osborn and Michael Bainum; daughter-in-law Pam Hartwick Jones; and five great-grandchildren.
Ouida would wish to express her heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Prairie Acres. The leadership and staff provided a safe environment and each day demonstrated a supportive and caring attitude. Over the years Ouida considered herself indeed fortunate to have enjoyed the friendship and love of many people. They were special to her in so many ways.

She and husband Jose attended St. Teresa’s Catholic Church of Friona, Texas, and took solace in knowing the Lord was watching over them. Born to a large family, Francisca, at six years old learned household duties of sewing, cooking, and caring care of her younger siblings, she will be missed by her brother Tony and sister Dora who remain. Francisca enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and socializing with whoever she met. She also enjoyed being outside drinking her coffee and watching the birds, taking in god’s gift of a new day. Always a sweet tooth she never passed up a chance of cake or chocolate and her TV always on to the latest Gunsmoke or Bonanza long after initial run. A woman with god’s strength who bravely battled through her difficult private struggles along with the support of her loving family and friends.

Rodriguez, whom she will meet again in Heaven, and is survived by her sons Jesse, Alberto, Luis, and Lupe Rodriguez, 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-children who knew Francisca [Wela] will be waiting for them in the afterlife.
