Matilde R. Caballero, 90 of Friona passed away August 15 in Amarillo. Viewing was held Tuesday, August 19, 2025 from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM with Rosary Services at 6:00 PM in the Ron Smiley Memorial Chapel of the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial Services were at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at St. Teresa’s Catholic Church in Friona with Father Nicholas Gerber as Celebrant. Burial following in the Friona Cemetery entrusted to HANSARD FAMILY Funeral Home of Friona.
Matilde was born July 11, 1935 in Edcouch, Texas to Pablo and Julia Martinez Rodriguez. She later married Ramiro G. Cabellero on March 17, 1957. She was very active, longtime member of St. Teresa’s Catholic Church in Friona where she was a member of the Ladies Society for over 40 years. Her spiritual inner being not only led her to be active in her church, but personally very positive, patient, kind and loving. She loved to spend time with her family traveling, cooking, playing bingo or going to and watching sporting events of any kind.
She is preceded in death by her parents-Pablo and Julia, husband-Ramiro, 1 son-David Caballero, granddaughter- Mia Caballero, great-grandson-Isaiah Santellana, son-in-law-Joe Santellana, daughter-in-law- Lucy Caballero, 3 sisters, and 2 brothers.
Those to mourn her passing include 5 sons- Rolando Caballero of Friona, Rojelio, Robert, and Eloy Caballero, all of Hereford, and Ramiro Caballero II of Killeen, 1 daughter-Diana Santellana of Friona, 2 sisters-Beatriz Rdz. Salinas of Edinburg and Francisca R. Cruz of Edcouch, 2 brothers-Robert Rodriguez of Edcouch, and Lalo Rodriguez of Fresno, CA., 15 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren.
