Tee Time — The 17th Annual Pudge Kendrick Memorial Golf Tournament will take place this weekend at the John Pitman Golf Course in Hereford. The tournament, which was first held at the Friona Country Club, is the annual fundraiser for the Parmer County Cancer Coalition and the Hereford Cancer Coalition. The “Pudge” has become the top tourney on the Hereford golf schedule and will include many players with Friona ties.

Don’t Call Us — Texas House Bill 1481, recently signed into law by Governor Abbott, prohibits students from using personal communication devices — including cell phones, wireless headphones, smartwatches, tablets, and similar devices - on school property during school hours. Friona ISD will share specific campus procedures, guidelines, and policies before the first day of school, August 13, 2025, once additional details are released by the Texas Education Agency (TEA).

National Climb A Mountain Day — This designated day, July 30th, is a metaphor about life. Many of us see obstacles in our life that block the things we wish for. We develop a fear of failure, what ifs, and rejection. Whether its travel, a personal goal, buying an extravagant gift for yourself, or starting a new business, obstacles always prevent us from even trying. This day is your reminder to start your journey up your mountain by realizing anything is possible if you put the effort in. If you want to take the day seriously, Guadalupe Peak, also known as Signal Peak, is the highest natural point in Texas, with an elevation of 8,751 feet above sea level. It is located in Guadalupe Mountains National Park, and is part of the Guadalupe Mountains range in southeastern New Mexico and West Texas. Get packing!
