Antonio “Tony” Sanmiguel Duran Jr., 80 of Friona, passed away May 5, 2025 in Amarillo. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service with military honors is scheduled for 3:00 PM Thursday May 8, 2025 in the Ron Smiley Memorial Chapel of the funeral home in Friona. Arrangements and cremation have been entrusted to HANSARD FAMILY Funeral Home of Friona.
Tony was born December 19, 1944 in Asherton, Texas to Antonio Sanmiguel and Andrea Duran. Later in 1965 Tony was drafted into the United States Army and served his country for 2 years in military service. A few years later, he married Maria Rios November 17, 1970 in Hereford. Tony was a very hard worker and provider for his family by working for Friona Industries as a Mill Operator for 36 years. He was a calm spirited husband, father, grandfather and role model. He loved giving to others by donating his blood when he had the opportunity. He loved to build things, but his family says they didn’t always stay together. Music was a favorite, especially oldies and he loved to dance and got the nickname The Twist.
Tony is preceded in death by his parents Antonio Sr. and Andrea Duran, 2 brothers-Abel Sanmiguel and Juan Sanmiguel and 1 sister-Elvira Arredondo.
Those to mourn his passing include his wife Mary R. Duran of Friona, 2 sons-Duran Andre Duran and wife Staci and Antonio Duran III and wife Monica, all of Amarillo, 1 daughter-Doreen Stone and husband Randy of Friona, 1 sister-Estela S. Ruiz and husband Arturo of Carrizo Springs, Texas and 1 brother-Ignacio S. Duran and wife Irma of San Antonio, 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
