Santos Cuevas, 88, beloved father, grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2025, in Fort Worth, Texas. He was born on March 7, 1937, in Temple, Texas, to Francisco and Dominga Cuevas. Santos joins his beloved wife, Antonia Cuevas, with whom he shared 53 years of unwavering love; and his daughter, Carmen Cuevas, in eternal rest.
As a child, he earned his lifelong appreciation for honest labor while working alongside his “abuelo” in the cotton fields. An appreciation that would further blossom when he worked side by side with his father. Over his lifetime he would become a well-known and experienced farmhand and foreman in the high plains. His time in the fields would be fruitful, especially on the day he met the love of his life, Antonia, while working in a cotton field in Shallowater, Texas, at the age of 20.
Together with his wife, Antonia, Santos built a family in the Texas Panhandle. He was a proud, hardworking man, dedicated to providing for his family. Although his formal education ended in junior high, he enjoyed a lifetime of success through his chosen profession and his loving family. His life leaves a lasting testament of passionate hard work, resilience, and dedication.
He was a devoted father to Carmen Cuevas, Delia Cuevas, Mary Jane (Berlanga) Cuevas, Santos Cuevas, and Tony Cuevas. He was a loving grandfather to nine grandchildren, Leon Cuevas, Daniel Cuevas, Nathan Cuevas, Julian Cuevas, Edgar Cuevas, Isabel Cuevas, Andres Berlanga, Isaac Berlanga, and Juan “TJ” Cuevas II. He was also blessed with 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
In his spare time, Santos loved gardening and tending to his plants, finding peace and joy outdoors. He would often fall asleep while watching his favorite western movies and shows on TV, a simple pleasure he often enjoyed. In his early teen years, Santos was a talented baseball pitcher, who, according to him, struck out every batter he faced.
Santos was a man of strong and steady faith. His generous heart was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. He had a playful attitude and a deep love for his family, which will be dearly missed by all.
