Anita Yvonne Powell was born to Emil & Buela (Smith) Sorley on May 30, 1939 in Painview, in Hale county Texas. She passed away on March 9, 2025. In 1958 she married the love of her life Donald Powell in Olton Texas. Together they had three children.
She loved sports, including basketball, football, and volleyball. She had many favorite sports teams, including the Oklahoma Thunder, Texas Longhorns, and the Dallas Cowboys. She loved to sew & do crafts including macrame & crochet. She liked her flowers and humming birds. She and her family loved to sing and some of the family would play instruments like the piano while they sang during family reunions. She loved to cook, she was a woman of many talents.
Anita was a real people person, she had a way with people to make them laugh and smile. She was a successful business owner and entrepreneur, owning several businesses including a dress shop, and a café. After retiring from Dumas ISD in 2001, Anita and her husband would spend summers in Fun Valley CO, a resort for camping where they spent many summers and would return to Somerville in the winter. She lived for her grandkids and she loved spending time with them. She also loved all the people at Rockdale Estates nursing home.
She was preceded in death by her parents Emil and Buela (Smith) Sorley, husband Donald and daughter Becky.
She is survived by her two sons Bradley Powell & Wife Barbara of Rockdale, son Stanley Powell & wife Linda of Somerville, and 30 grand & great grand kids.
