Tie One On Day — On Wednesday November 27th we celebrate the apron. Through the years, aprons have served many purposes. They protect hands from hot items coming out of the oven. They protect our clothes while we cook. They can carry eggs, vegetables, toys, and even the catch of the day. Aprons fan us as we wait for cakes to finish and occasionally, they even make us feel a little more adept in the kitchen, too. So tie one on today and start cookin’.

Smells Fishy — Special thanks to Jim Taylor and Larry Johnston for frying the catfish at the Senior Meal on Veterans Day. We haven’t heard if Jim wore his fish-fryin’ apron to celebrate Tie One On Day (see photo at right).

McCain Brothers’ music featured in Glowzies

The McCain Brothers, Ben and Butch, have three new songs in the zany, family friendly horror movie called Glowzies now streaming on Amazon Prime and Tubi.

“Director Hank Braxton offered Butch the role of Old Mose and also asked if we could come up with some surf music. We included our producer Jon James and came up with a new 12 track CD,” Ben said. “Hank selected Let The Good Vibes Roll, Boom Goes The Dynamite and the title track, The Biggest Waves and Prettiest Babes. Butch’s scenes are with acting veteran James Remar. The film was shot in and around Grand Junction, Colorado. The movie is being compared to Gremlins and Goonies.”

Butch added, “The zombies also known as Glowzies are repelled by the surf music. So our songs are not just background music, they are featured prominently during some of the attack scenes. This is my third time to work with Hank. It’s a blessing to get to work close to home and with a director you know and like.”

The three songs used in the movie are performed by The McCain Brothers and were written by Butch, Ben, and Jon Jon James. The songs were produced by Jon James at Shedd Studios and published by McCain Brother Music (ASCAP).

Ben and Butch grew up on a farm near Bovina and started their entertainment careers at KZOL radio in Farwell while in high school. Both are graduates of Bovina High School, South Plains College, and West Texas A&M. The McCain Brothers hosted an early morning TV show in Oklahoma City for 12 years before moving to Los Angeles to get into the film business. The “Boys from Bovina” continue to work in movies and TV shows as well as write and record music. Ben and his family now live in Franklin, Tennessee while Butch and his family make their home in Grand Junction, Colorado.

At the Movies — (l-r) Butch McCain, James Ramar, and Ron Carlson in the motion picture Glowzies where an ancient and evil extraterrestrial slime that was buried in a remote Colorado canyon eons ago is returning to life. It seems the only people in a position to stop it are a group of aging veterans, who must team up with some social media influencers to survive, as the slime turns anyone it comes into contact with into glowing, goo-spewing zombies!

Now streaming on Amazon Prime and Tubi

Friona family receives free ramp

The Rodriguez Family is the latest recipient of a ramp courtesy of the Texas Panhandle Ramp Project. The Project’s mission is to build ramps for those who find their steps to be a barrier. The ramp allows elderly or disabled individuals to leave their home safely and independently. Volunteers for this project included Stu Downing, Robert Taylor, and Henry Wyckoff of the Amarillo Downtown Lions Club; Homer Haile, Ruben Rejino, and Clint Mears of the Friona Noon Lions Club; and student volunteers Jorge Castillo and Gavin Rejino.
