Burial following in the Bovina Cemetery by HANSARD FAMILY Funeral Home of Friona.

Mother/Grandmother, Altagracia "Gracie" Ortiz was born 91 years ago on April 16, 1932, to Bonifacio and Micaela (Ramirez) Castro in Hays County, Texas. She married Ireneo Ortiz on June 29, 1957, in Rensselaer, Indiana. On their journey through the U.S. chasing work, they found their way to Bovina, Texas, which became their home in 1969.

She spent all her years dedicating her time and love to the two most important things to her. Her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and her Family. She was a devoted member of the St. Ann's Catholic Church of Bovina for over 50 years, where she was an active member of the Guadalupanas, the Legion of Mary, the Cursillos, and served as an Eucharistic Minister. She was very involved with the Catholic Youth Organization, which she took many youths to the SEARCH retreat, including each of her sons. She was so passionate about her Faith and her Family, at times it seemed unreal that one could love and care the way she did. Most importantly she served as the ROCK of her family. There wasn't an occasion she missed good or bad, she was always there. She valued the importance of displaying her love not only for her Lord, but for her family as well.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ireneo Ortiz, two sons, Andrew Ortiz and Ireneo (Eddie) Ortiz, a grandson, Michael Ortiz, and a great grandson, Thomas Ortiz, her parents Bonifacio and Micaela Castro, and three sisters, Betty Chagoya, Elena Pina, and Angelita Estrada.

She is survived by three children, Celia(Earl) Quintana, Delia (Ben) Cantu, and Noel (Susie) Ortiz all of Bovina. Siblings, Janie Ortiz of Lubbock, Texas, Dominga Hernandez, Jesus (Aurora) Castro and Felix (Becky) Castro, all of San Antonio, Texas, 15 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
