Wyndol David Grimsley

Wyndol David Grimsley, age 92, passed away Saturday, July 22, 2023 in Friona. Viewing was held on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 from 9:00AM to 8:00 PM in the Ron Smiley Memorial Chapel of HANSARD FAMILY. The Celebration of Life Memorial Service was held at 1:30 P.M., Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at Sixth Street Church of Christ in Friona with Jeff Procter, officiating. Arrangements by HANSARD FAMILY Funeral Home of Friona.

David was born on October 6, 1930, in Olton, Texas, to I.D. 'Bud' and Theo Santa Fe Farrar Grimsley. He was the third of four children: Jack, Geraldine (Smith), and Juanell (Gullett). He grew up in a farmhouse northwest of Olton that still stands, and where his youngest sister, Juanell, still resides. David graduated from Olton High School in 1948. He met his wife, Uldene Bomar from Springlake, at a skating rink in town and they were married that same year.

Together, David and his father built the couple a three-room house next to his parents' home, and David began tenant farming land outside of Olton. A baby boy, Jimmy, soon arrived, followed six years later by a little brother, Jayson. In 1959 the couple moved their young household to Friona and created a homestead of their own northeast of town. The family has raised wheat, sorghum, corn, cotton, cattle, kids, grandkids - and now great-grandkids - on that same family farm for the last 64 years.

David was active in the community, serving as a director on numerous local and county boards and committees. He was a faithful member of the Sixth Street Church of Christ, where he previously served as a deacon. Until the later years of his life, David enjoyed fishing with several local 'fishing buddies,' which at least once a summer included a carload of his grandchildren.

David's life has been, to his family, an example of stewardship, quiet patience, and loyalty. He was rarely seen without a smile, and few conversations with him went by without him working in a good joke he'd recently heard. His steadfast and constant presence in our lives leaves a void that we are thankful to be able to fill with many happy memories. He will be missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by Uldene, his wife for 71 years; his son, James "Jimmy" Grimsley; and a great-granddaughter, Sayge Massie.

He is survived by his son Jayson and wife Jyl, of Friona; his sister, Juanell Gullett of Olton; seven grandchildren: Holly Heard (Ted) of Lubbock, Poppy Stokes of McKinney, Kyle Grimsley (Kylie) of Dalhart, Justin Grimsley (Julie) of Benbrook, Jena Massie (Shawn) of Lubbock, Jacy Weatherly of Canyon, and Cody Grimsley (Erin) of Friona; and 15 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to say a special thank you to the attendants, nurses and staff of Prairie Acres and Parmer Medical Center who have so patiently and selflessly treated our dad and grandad as one of their own during the last years of his life, and a special thank you for the loving care given by Friona Bluebonnet Home Health & Hospice. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Prairie Acres Nursing Home or the Parmer Medical Center in Friona.
