It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marie Hughlett, a beloved Texan, on October 4th, 2023, in Denton, Texas, after a brief illness. Born on May 19th, 1938, in Friona, Texas, Marie's journey through life was marked by a remarkable devotion to family, faith, and community.
Marie's early years were a testament to her dedication to academic excellence. She was named Salutatorian of her high school graduating class in 1956, setting the stage for a lifetime of achievements.
Marie's pursuit of knowledge led her to Hardin Simmons College in Abilene, Texas, where she crossed paths with the love of her life, Virgil Hughlett. Their love story, spanning 65 years, was the cornerstone of her life, built on a foundation of love, support, and shared adventures.
Marie's career path was as diverse as her interests. She began her professional journey in cosmetology and later transitioned to roles in bank administration and human resources. Her ability to adapt and excel in various fields was a testament to her unwavering determination.
While raising three sons, Marie and Virgil embarked on a journey that took them across the southern United States. Their travels allowed them to work, live, and experience life in different communities. Marie cherished these experiences and loved sharing them with her family and friends.
Marie's faith was at the center of her life. She was a lifelong believer in Jesus Christ, and her faith guided her actions and decisions. During her retirement years, she became an active member of Nocona Hills Community Church, where she participated in numerous church functions and mission trips, spreading love and hope to those in need.
Beyond her professional and religious endeavors, Marie had a zest for life. Her favorite pastimes included traveling to new destinations and indulging in the joy of shopping. Her enthusiasm for these activities was infectious and brought joy to those around her.
Marie was preceded in death by her father, L.R. White, her mother, Floreine White, and her younger brother, Teddy White. She is survived by her devoted husband, Virgil Hughlett, and two brothers, Jimmy White of Fort Towson, Oklahoma, and Max White of Shallowater, Texas.
Marie leaves behind a legacy of love and a close-knit family. She is survived by her three sons and their families:
Kent Hughlett, his wife Karla, and their children Amber and Gabe Howell, with their three children, Alex, Sean, and Lily, as well as Awbrey Hughlett and his two sons, Wyatt and Walker.
Kirk Hughlett, his wife Cindy, and their children Travis Hughlett, Tyler and Dede Looney, and their two children, Anna and Talor.
Keith Hughlett, his wife Lisa, and their children Drew and Emma.
Marie will be remembered for her love, kindness, and unwavering faith. Her passing leaves a void in the lives of all who knew her, but her memory will continue to shine brightly in our hearts.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Marie Hughlett will be held on October 15th at 2:00 pm at Nocona Hills Community Church. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to the Women's Ministry of Nocona Hills Community Church, a cause close to Marie's heart.
Marie Hughlett's legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of those she touched throughout her incredible journey. She will forever be loved and missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
