A total of 1,487 ballots were cast by Parmer County voters during the Republican and Democrat Primary Elections held on Tuesday. There were only four contested Parmer County races and all of them were in the Republican Primary.
In the race for County Judge, Isabel "Izzy" Carrasco won with 801 votes. Randy Geries received 602 votes, and Will Anderson received 47 votes. The current County Judge, Trey Ellis, did not seek re-election.
In the race for County Commissioner Precinct 2, incumbent Charles Wilkins received 206 votes and Gene Schueler received 177 votes.
The race for County Commissioner Precinct 4 was just as close as incumbent Casey Russell received 109 and John O'Brian received 65 votes.
In the open seat race for Justice of the Peace Precinct 1, Rhonda Wilkins received 370 votes and Joe Lafuente received 260 votes. Both were first-time candidates for the office.
Izzy, Rhonda, Casey, and Charles will be the Republican nominees. Since there were no Democrats running for these four positions in the Primary election, they will be unopposed in the Fall election.

Words mean things - Homer Haile forwarded some info concerning the halftime "entertainment" at the recent Super Bowl game. Apparently, if you look up the words to the songs that were performed you will find approximately 60 uses of various forms of vulgarity. The NFL approves everything in advance of the performances. One of the "entertainers" even advocates violence against law enforcement officials. Like the ones guarding him during the show. Bring back the marching bands!

National Pound Cake Day - on March 4th, we recognize one of the dessert world's most versatile cakes. The traditional recipe for pound cake makes a cake much larger than most families can consume, as it calls for a pound each of flour, butter, eggs, and sugar. Hence the name Pound Cake. In the United States, sour cream pound cake is a popular variation apart from the traditional pound cake recipe. Other variations include adding vanilla or almond flavoring or dried fruits.
