Jesus Sergio Campos

Jesus Sergio Campos, 67, of Friona, Texas, passed away on Saturday, October 2, 2021, in Dimmitt, Texas. Celebration of Life Service were held on Wednesday, October 6, 2021, at 2:00 P.M. at Calvary Family Church in Hereford, Texas with Pastor Ruben Coronado officiating. Burial followed at West Park Cemetery. Arrangements and services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas. A viewing was held on Tuesday, October 5, 2021, from 3:00 - 8:00 P.M. with a prayer service beginning at 6:00 P.M., viewing continued Wednesday, October 6, 2021, from 9:00 A.M.- 12:00 A.M.

Jesus was born on December 16, 1953, to Isidoro and Esperanza Maldonado (Campos) in Saltillo Coahuila, Mexico. He moved to Hereford, Texas in 1972 and has been a resident of Friona, Texas since 1977. Jesus married Elizabeth (Rodriguez) on April 23, 1977. He worked for Cargill for 33 years as a knife sharpener. He loved to be outside working on different projects and inventions and was known to be quite the handy man. Jesus enjoyed teaching his sons how to play baseball and watching sports. He was a good sport with his grandkids taking part in many TikToks and Snapchats. Jesus liked to grill out and cook on his disco, some specialties being tripas and carnitas. He especially enjoyed time spent with family, grandchildren, and his great grandson. He also loved taking trips to Mexico to spend time with his family that lived there. Jesus was a hardworking family man, who will be greatly missed.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife Elizabeth Campos of Friona, TX.; children, Claudia Campos of Friona, TX, Jesus Sergio Campos Jr. and his wife Diana of Hereford, TX, and Jorge Campos of Friona, TX; grandchildren, Breanna Villanueva and Alexis Cavazos both of Friona, TX, Hector Cavazos Jr., Zaylin Campos, Jesus Sergio Campos III, Jacob Enriquez and Jacyell Campos all Hereford, TX, Yazmyn Campos, Shylay Campos, and Jayden Campos all of Bovina, TX; great grandson Ezra Michael Villanueva of Friona, TX; sisters, Irma Ovalle Campos and Elva Campos both of Saltillo Coahuila, Mexico; sister in-law AnaVelia Campos of Hereford, TX; nephews, Eric Campos of Hereford, TX, and Daniel Campos of Conroe, TX; and niece Gabriela Campos of Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jose Luis Campos, Hector Campos, Oscar Campos, and Isidoro Campos Jr., and a niece, Esperanza "Hopie" Campos.

Jackie Thomas Moser

Memorial service for Jackie Thomas Moser, age 79, of Friona, Texas, is scheduled for 11:00 AM, Tuesday, October 5, 2021, at First Baptist Church in Friona, with Brett Hoyle of Friona officiating. Jackie died Thursday, September 30, 2021, in Friona. He was born June 8, 1942, in Greenville, Texas, to W.B. and Odessa (Wood) Moser. He married Hattie Dawson in Muleshoe, Texas, on November 25, 1964.

Jackie was a member of the First Baptist Church in Friona. He is preceded in death by his wife, Hattie; a son, Jeffrey Moser; and a brother, Bobby Moser.

Jackie is survived by his three daughters, Norma Norris and her husband, Tim of Amarillo, Texas, Carla Moser of Friona, Texas and Brenda Perry and her husband, Brandon of Lubbock, Texas; his sister, Cheryl Sutton of Dallas, Texas; his brother, Ralph Moser of Greenville, Texas; his two grandchildren, Tim Morris Jr. and Zach Sarver; and his two great-grandchildren, Thomas Norris and James Norris.

Melissa Ann Griswold

Melissa Ann Griswold passed away on September 3, 2021. She was born on June 11, 1965 to Jack and Betty Griswold in Amarillo. She was the first child of Jack and Betty Griswold. Services were held in Palo Duro Canyon, the Mack Dick Pavilion, on Tuesday, October 5 at 6 p.m. A separate service will be held for burial at a church cemetery near her home place in Alabama.

Her childhood dream job was to be a nurse, but she loved teaching, singing and reading. And she had a Iifelong relationship with Jesus Christ. Mel graduated from Canyon High School, West Texas State University and Southwest Theological Seminary. The Baptist Student Union at WTSU, and the friends made there, created a solid life foundation. She served with the lnternational Mission Board and served in Kokstad, and Lesotho, South Africa. Ordained by a Baptist congregation in Canyon, she was a rare ordained female Baptist minister. She also served as the Chaplain for Northwest Texas Hospital. She taught many years at Amarillo High School, teaching government-type classes. She held teaching assignments at Friona High School, as well Adrian High School. She joined the fight to save the declining Herring Hotel. Recently, she had been leading tour groups at The Goodnight Ranch in Clarendon, and became a familiar face at Panhandle Plains Historical Museum where she repaired strings of seed beads on flapper dresses, and preserved and mounted historic Texas flags.

She treasured the relatives from Alabama, her inner circle of friends, her nieces and nephew, and the students she nurtured. She loved to travel, cook, study history and genealogy, and research. She could sing like a nightingale. She did anything she set her mind to and always worked at it harder than a 'coal mine' mule.

She was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents, her parents, her aunt and uncles on her mom's side, and an aunt on her dad's side. She is survived by aunt Mable Lee, Elba, Alabama; sister Venie McDaniel and husband Earl of Borger, Texas; Venie's children Alyssa Moore and husband Nicholas of Lubbock, Janae McDaniel of Denver, Colorado, CJ McDaniel and partner Makayla Contrerez and daughter Mia, Tessa McDaniel of Borger, and Brenna McDaniel of Stinnett; a chosen mother Glenna Schmidt of Amarillo; a chosen son Terrell Slocum and wife Trina, and children Carson and Jenson of Amarillo; mentor Bob Goodrich; chosen family Heather Fuentes and husband Eddie along with their children; treasured friend Cindy Wallace; precious friends, Mr. and Mrs. David A. Corbin and family; spiritual parents and cousins Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Williams and family of Jack, Alabama, Andre'Anderson and family of Georgia, Ricky Anderson and family of Abernathy, and Peter Anderson and family of Brownfield.

Marcella "Sally" Ellis

Church services for Marcella "Sally" Ellis, age 92, of Muleshoe, Texas, were held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 2, 2021 at First Baptist Church in Muleshoe with Dr. Stacy Conner of Muleshoe officiating. Burial was in Muleshoe Memorial Park. Sally died Wednesday, September 29, 2021 in Muleshoe. She was born June 5, 1929 in Aurelia, Iowa to Charles L. and Martha Marie (Bischel) Pingel. She married Frank Ellis in Amarillo, Texas on June 11, 1950.

Sally was an excellent cook, and was known for her peanut brittle, Texas cream pies and elderberry jelly. She was also an avid bridge player. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Muleshoe as well as the United Methodist Women. Sally enjoyed spending time at her home in Colorado. She is preceded in death by her husband, Frank; her parents; two sisters, Beulah "Beth" Pingel and Betty Lou Compton; two brothers, Charles Dale Pingle and Wayne Pingel.

Sally is survived by her three sons, Frank "Trey" Ellis III and his wife, Tracy of Friona, Texas, Dan Ellis and his wife, Teresa of Smithville, Texas, and Todd Ellis and his wife Starla of Muleshoe, Texas; her sister, Patricia Ann Skelpsa and her husband, Vince of Phoenix, Arizona; her sister-in-law, Berna Ruth Ellis of Amarillo, Texas; her seven grandchildren, Quint Ellis and his wife, Ivy, Whitney Rodriguez and her husband, Huber, Josh Ellis, Brian Ellis, Becky Tiner and her husband, Glenn, Colt Ellis and his wife, Leslie, and Dusty Clayton and his wife, Lindsey; and her thirteen great-grandchildren, Drew, Reid, Lane, Vivian, Finn, Isaac, Kenna, Kayde, Jake, Jordyn, Roslyn, Bentlee, and Collins.
